On the Impact of Fair Best Response Dynamics

چکیده
In this work we completely characterize how the frequency with which each player participates in the game dynamics affects the possibility of reaching efficient states, i.e., states with an approximation ratio within a constant factor from the price of anarchy, within a polynomially bounded number of best responses. We focus on the well known class of congestion games and we show that, if each player is allowed to play at least once and at most β times any T best responses, states with approximation ratio O(β) times the price of anarchy are reached after T ⌈log log n⌉ best responses, and that such a bound is essentially tight also after exponentially many ones. One important consequence of our result is that the fairness among players is a necessary and sufficient condition for guaranteeing a fast convergence to efficient states. This answers the important question of the maximum order of β needed to fast obtain efficient states, left open by [9,10] and [3], in which fast convergence for constant β and very slow convergence for β = O(n) have been shown, respectively. Finally, we show that the structure of the game implicitly affects its performances. In particular, we show that in the symmetric setting, in which all players share the same set of strategies, the game always converges to an efficient state after a polynomial number of best responses, regardless of the frequency each player moves with.

Impact of hypokinesia on dynamics of formation of evoked potentials in sensorimotor cortex in early postnatal ontogenesis
The analysis of evoked potentials of sensorimotor cortex in response to electrical stimulation of n. ischiadicus shows that the extremal factor hypokinesia has a negative impact on the dynamics of formation of amplitudal and temporal characteristics since eyes openning in 2-weeks old rats. The most vulnerable process to the impact of hypokinesia is the first-positive phase, which disappears in ...

متن کاملSpeculative Oil Demand and Crude Oil Price Dynamics: A TVP-VAR Approach
Significant decline in the slope of short-term oil supply and demand curves, along with the meaningful change in the degree of risk aversion in arbitrageurs encouraged us to test the time-varying effects of speculative demand on crude oil price dynamics over the period 1985-2016. Using a time-varying parameter vector autoregressive (TVP-VAR) model – with structural shocks identified by Killian ...

Inequality, nowadays, is one of the main concerns in developmental plans and as a result expansion of basic opportunities and their fair distribution is a part and parcel of any roadmap to development. However, the economic policies of the country can inform any attempt in this regard. To estimate the extent to which such policies have impacted equal and timely access to education in Ir...
متن کاملInvestigation of stepped planning hull hydrodynamics using computational fluid dynamics and response surface method
The use of step at the bottom of the hull is one of the effective factors in reducing the resistance and increasing the stability of the Planning hull. The presence of step at the bottom of this type of hulls creates a separation in the flow, which reduces the wet surface on the hull, thus reducing the drag on the body, as well as reducing the dynamic trim. In this study, a design space was cre...
